How to: Winged black smokey eye

Did this aaaaaaaaages ago, but I thought it would be nice to do a 'How to' for once in my blog life, right?
Anyhow, for those who want to do this dramaaaatic 'structured' cat eye look, your search has ended.
I love this look for whenever I want to make my eyes the center of attention.
It's super easy and takes about... 5-10 mins for the eye area

I'd finish the rest of my face, personally with a pale or slightly pink lip, maybe even coral, no blush - though if you HAD to go for one, pick a peach! I'd use a highlighter on high points of cheek, nose bridge, cupids bow and a semi matte full coverage foundation - because you want people to think you have naturally flawless -cough- skin.

This is, a long post btw.. :(

WHAT WE NEED:
♡ black eye shadow: matte and shimmer
♡black liner for waterline and outline
 ♡lengthening/defining mascara
♡pearl/shimmer highlight shade
 ♡an AMAZING eye concealer
♡eye shadow primer
♡translucent powder
♡eyelash curler
♡ 3 eye brushes:
Pencil - outline and blend
Blending - diffuses the shadow for a soft look
'Precision' - the one you initially pack the shadow on with
 ♡ falsies - OPTIONAL

I chose to NOT put fake lashes on as...
  •  I didn't have any at the time and
  • A full set of falsies would make your eyes look more round, rather than elongated- something you want to avoid when aiming for 'cat eye'
If you WERE going to use lashes, I'd highly recommend individual or demi lashes in the outer corner of the eye, as they'd leave a nice 'flick' and enhance the cat eye look without looking OTT.
I did this look... over a year ago? But since I rarely take photos of myself, I'll use the one above.
We rollan'

  1. First things first, prep and prime your eye area. Do NOT conceal, or have any foundation etc on!Make sure to pay some extra attention to the lid area, below your natural crease and waterline area.
  2. Next up, using your pencil liner or shadow (with pencil brush), sketch the outline of your wing if you're a little nervous/shaky. I never did this step, I guess you could say.. I 'winged' it :D
  3. Third, slowly grab your precision brush and load your brush up with your MATTE black shadow. Tap off excess. Fill in the outline you drew in step two.
Once you're done, line your upper lid.
  4. Fourth, grab the SHIMMERY black shadow and lightly dust it around the outer third of your eye for some sparkle sparkle. I tried to avoid putting it on the inner third as the idea of shimmer around there with the highlighter looks garish. Lightly dusting the colour on helps intensity the matte black, but adds the shimmer and dimension.
  5. Fifth, pencil liner - line your waterline, ALL THE WAY and make sure you connect it to your upper liner.Once you get to the inner corner of your eye, extend it down slightly to make the... 'point'?, from there move your eyeliner and connect the line where the 'point' starts and draw it up, to connect it to your upper eye. Bam, easy kitty eye effect!
  6. Sixth, get your blending brush and blend blend blend your shadow to 'diffuse' it. Packed on eye shadow isn't really pretty.
  7. Next up, grab your pencil brush and run it over your waterline to really blend away the harsh lines it might have made. Tip: you can use your pencil brush to define the wing :D Once you've done that, dip your pencil brush in the MATTE black shadow and gently press it on - this helps it last longer.
  8. Eighth, clean up your little 'mess' (fallout) if you have any. Sharpen any edges with a q tip and a BIT of make up remover if required.
  9. Once you're happy with it, get your highlight colour and give a light wash around the other and inner corner of your eyes. Use any left overs on your brow bone and brow lifting goodness.
  10. Next up, LIGHTLY dust your translucent powder over the whole eye look to really set it
  11. Final steps, curl lashes and apply 2-3 coats of your favourite lengthening/defining mascara. Chuck on falsies if you want.
